What makes Portola Paints different from hardware store paint?
We specialize in handcrafted, small-batch architectural finishes. Unlike standard acrylic paints, our products like Limewash and Roman Clay use natural pigments and traditional techniques to create depth, texture, and a unique variegated finish.
How do I determine how much paint I need for my project?
Each product page includes a coverage calculator. Generally, one gallon of our standard paint covers approximately 350-400 square feet per coat. We recommend two coats for most projects to achieve full color saturation.
Do you offer international shipping?
Currently, we ship to all 50 U.S. states and Canada. Because paint is a heavy liquid and requires specific safety handling, international shipping rates and transit times vary based on the destination and order weight.
Can I return a custom-mixed color?
Because our paints are tinted to order, we cannot accept returns or exchanges on any tinted products. We strongly recommend purchasing a sample pot first to test the color in your specific lighting conditions.
How long will it take to receive my order?
Standard orders typically ship within 3-5 business days. During high-volume periods or for large custom batches, processing may take up to 7 business days. You will receive a tracking number via email once your order leaves our warehouse.
Do I need a specific primer for Limewash or Roman Clay?
Yes, specialty finishes require specific surface preparation. For Roman Clay, we recommend a high-quality PVA primer. For Limewash, our Lime Prep Primer is essential to ensure proper adhesion and the desired aesthetic effect.
